How to Do a Good Book Launch

It’s no secret that ebook launches are incredibly important to the success of any self-published material. They can set your book off on the right track to the high numbers of sales.

But how exactly can you make your book launch good? Well, here’s a quick answer:

You can do a good book launch by putting your ebook on sale and doing heavy promotion, such as social media marketing band paid advertising. Creating a better book also adds to word of mouth, which is your most powerful tool.

But these previous three paragraphs mean absolutely nothing to you if you don’t know what a book launch is, obviously. So what exactly are they?

What is a book launch?

A book launch is a concept that is used to increase sales in the long run. It essentially works by building hype around your book (or any other type of product) and then promoting it heavily just after publication.

The aim of a book launch is actually just to shift copies – as I mentioned above. While some authors do end up seeing higher profits during this period as well, the aim is to get higher sales for the long-term. This works because, in general, higher starting sales means higher sales for the rest of the book’s lifetime.

If, for example, you self-published on KDP, then a higher starting sales pushes your book out to more people (because of the Amazon algorithms), so you end up receiving more sales. It also works on most other platforms, and word of mouth can play a role too.

For self-published authors, a number of sales in the tens of thousands is usually considered pretty good for a first-time author (I know that I didn’t reach that number – because I didn’t do it right).

Right. Now we know what a book launch is, let’s figure out how to improve ours.

How can I make my book launch better?

Doing a proper book launch is tough. You either have to hire an expert or spend a lot of time learning and marketing (particularly the latter).

But you have three advantages. Firstly, you know what a book launch is. Secondly, you actually care about it. Thirdly, you found this post.

So here’s a quick breakdown:

  1. Hype up your book for the weeks leading up to the launch. Try to do this on social media, a website if you have one, email lists, or any other tools you have. There are many more, which you can find a guide to here.
  2. Put your book on sale immediately after you publish. Put the link to it on all your social, email lists, etc.
  3. Encourage people to share the ebook with their friends. This could even be at the end of the actual book.
  4. Keep promoting it until at least a few weeks after you launched.

It may vary a little, but the above structure is pretty close to most book launches. Sometimes you will have to do more marketing, but sometimes just putting it on your socials and creating a flash sale will be enough to encourage people to tell others.

Essentially, the best way to make your book (or ebook) launch better is to:

  1. Make a better book. A better book encourages word of mouth much better than a bad book. Here’s a guide on how to do that.
  2. Marketing. This is the most important part of trying to make money from your ebook, which most people overlook. You can get ahead quickly with this useful guide that I made for marketing ebooks.

How can I do a book launch on a tight budget?

This website is literally aimed at kids, like me – who generally don’t have thousands of pounds lying around waiting to be used for an ebook launch strategy. So how can we do this on a budget?

The general strategy to marketing without significant cash is to cut back on the paid advertising and focusing more on the cheap stuff. The cheap stuff generally includes things such as social media marketing or email lists.

When I did my first book launch, all I did was put it on sale and hoped that Amazon KDP would do what I wanted it to.He wasn’t quite that simple, but I did end up getting 2,000 sales partially because I put it on my WhatsApp, which gave it some initial sales.

So what are all the options if you’re on a tight budget? Well here’s a few ideas:

  1.  Social media marketing. Social media is a very powerful tool for anybody who’s on a tight budget. It’s completely free and allows you to reach millions of users, assuming you’re good enough at it.
  2. Email lists. Email lists allow you to reach potential customers with your sales pitch exactly how you want it. Although email lists may not give you the same number of potential readers as social media, it is much easier to get a higher converting audience.
  3. Guest blog posts. Guest blog posts allow you to leverage blogs’ users to gain more customers. Although this may not bring in many customers immediately, it’s what’s called an “evergreen” marketing tactic – or, in other words, you’re always getting customers from them. Blogs are also usually very happy to publish free blog posts that you’re willing to write for them. However you need to make sure that your blog posts are up to scratch and good enough. Otherwise the blog may actually deliberately refuse it as it could harm their brand image.

Of course, there are many more options available to you, for which I recommend reading this.

Anyway, that’s about it for today, so thank you for reading this post. I hope it was helpful. If you would like to get more support with your ebook journey, my blog is here.
